Handmade Photo Frames

Now, this is first timer for me…not the photo frame. But doing craft exchange with fellow bloggers. It was a wonderful experience where I created these two recycled frames with paper roses, and got lovely handmade gifts in return. :-)

This time I tried two different designs. First one, by slightly modifying the calendar, whereas in other one I have used the desktop calendar as it is, advantage being - the frame is self supported. There is no need to attach the extra support from behind. For paper roses, Helen has this lovely tutorial on her blog.

Materials Used: Old Desktop calendar, Handmade papers, pattern paper, OHP sheets, double-sided tape, Craft paper (for roses), Glue, craft scissors & embellishments.

X-mas card :-)

One more card created with the little one...who wanted it for his friend.. :-)

I have so many ideas in my head but when I sit to craft..i manage to come up with only simple cards for children...!!

Supplies used:

Card stock - pink and purrple

Hand cut leaves and berries

Paper fringed Christmas Tree

 

Yet another simple and child friendly Christmas card. We (me and my 4.5 year old little one) created it within 30 minutes. J

I have used green colored old magazine paper for fringed Christmas tree, a card stock, quilling strips for that framed look, rhinestones, some glitter and few stickers.

He is going to present this to his teacher before vacations start…!!

Pistachio shell craft

I feel that this blog is transformed into something associated with only children's craft... :-)

Here is another simple card for lil one's friend. We pasted pistachio shells on the base of handmade paper and colored them using sketchpens.

A quick and easy one to do with your 4-5 year old..

Christmas Card with Ribbon work

I know its not Christmas time yet, but still I am sharing this X-mas card I tried with Ribbon loop work...

Its a simple card created in less than 30 minutes. Hand-cut some patterns for gifts and stars, made green satin ribbon loops, used some glittery balls and ta daa...

PS: The card was lying around since quiet sometime, by the time I managed to click the pic, some glittery balls got removed...!!

DIY Mask for Kids

Here is some fun activity to do with your kids.
One fine day, we were going around some place, when kiddo asked for face mask from a small street shop. Looking at them I got an idea to try it at home. 

I took some simple images of animal faces from google and created these cute little masks...

Steps: 
1. Hand draw the pattern on a sheet of card stock/drawing sheet.
2. Cut out the holes for eyes (for looking) and wing design of butterfly.
3. Stick some other color papers, glitters, rhinestones to add the zing.
4. Create butterfly's antenna/cat's moustaches by pipe cleaners.
5. punch two holes at either sides, tie a ribbon or elastic to fasten the mask.

Note: I used drawing sheets, for more robust masks felt sheets can be used. 

DIY Krishna Mukut

This year, the kiddo's teacher has asked to dress him up a Little Krishna for Janmashtami celebration at school.
As soon as I read the notice in his diary, I decided to make a mukut at home. I also did a simple decoration of flute which was lying unused in his toys basket.

Material used:

-White card stock (thicker is better, I used the paper from a new-shirt packing)
-Handmade Paper (Golden color)
-Handmade paper (Red color - used from an old wedding card)
-Embellishments
-Ribbon/elastic
-old newspaper
-Glue
-A pair of Scissor
-A peacock feather

Method:

1. Hand draw the pattern on a news paper, took the measurement of his head (it should cover his forehead) and cut the pattern.
2. Using this pattern, draw the outline for mukut base on card stock & golden paper. Cut & paste golden paper over card stock.
3. Cut various patterns with red paper and paste on the golden one.
4. Use embellishments to crate beautiful designs of mukut.
5. Make two small holes at the ends & tie and elastic/ribbon.
6. Last & Most important, cut a peacock feather from its stem, and paste it firmly on the back of the mukut. I also trimmed it slightly to create an even look.

Here is the final outcome, tell me how is it?

Wedding gifts packing

One of the many rituals of the wedding functions, one ceremony involves gifting clothes to the groom and his immediate family.
Now since it is a indian and tgat too a punjabi wedding...the clothea have to be packed in a fancy manner.. :-)

And if you have some crafty fingers at home., then there is nothing to stop you.
It was sister's idea and I just followed the suit with different colors and embellishments. Boxes are made from scratch using cardboard base and thermocol sides.
Base is covered with silver/golden glazed paper sheets and sides are painted using fevicryl fabric colours. Then the boxes are decorated with laces and embellishments.
After putting the cloths inside, we packed them with transparent plastic covers sheets.

This is what we did till 5 in the morning...!!

DIY Rakhi - tutorial

Hello friends,

With one of the main festivals approaching next month i.e. Rakshabandhan, I was keen to share the method to make beautiful handmade rakhis.

It is super easy and an altogether different feeling to tie a hand made rakhi on your brother's wrist...which he is going to flaunt for quiet sometime...:-)

We, at our home have been making rakhis for...well...as long as I remember...

Material Required:
- Satin thread (kacha resham)
- Glue
- Ribbons
- Laces
- Embellishments (lots of)

Here is the picture depicting procedure to create base of resham:

Steps: 
1. Wind the thread over a small bangle or between your fore fingers to create base of desired size.
2. Tie it tightly from the middle (as shown in picture 1). After tying, cute the side loops and remove the bangle. 
3. Turn it around from the cut-sides to give it a round shape and cover the knot in the middle (I guess, picture 3 shows it better than words)
4. Use an old toothbrush to smooth the resham threads, the task will be mush faster and efficient if you are using kachha resham (highly recommended)
5. After brushing, trim it from the sides to give a perfect round shape.
6. Last step is to pressed in a huge book to take the proper shape. We used to keep them overnight.

Later on, use variety of embellishments and decorate the resham bases with different designs, let your creativity do the magic...!!

Stick on the ribbon/thread on the back. Remember to stick a small piece of paper on the back side over the ribbon/thread to secure it firmly to the base.

Stone painting

Our recent trip to lonavala filled our baskets with some more memories, lots of beautiful pictures, and a few stones.
Yes stones..!!
When we were going to bushy dam, i observed plenty of round shaped stones lying there in abundance...looking at them i remembered the idea of stone painting.
So as we used to do in our childhood days...i called the kiddo..and both of us were busy collecting the perfect shape n sized stones.
After coming back on saturday eve..we did this on sunday afternoon..
Stones washed, dried, coated with pearl colors, and worked upon with fevicryl 3d outliner.
Simple stones converted to beautiful paper weights.

And this last one with sun and smileys (partially done by little one) went to his teacher as a gift on first day of new session :-)

Paper Bow - Origami

I was just browsing the internet for craft ideas using old magazine papers, when I came across Helen's blog.
She has shown awesome tutorial for creating paper bows...it is easy and very well described.
Having already tried paper bags, this was the definitely immediate thing to try.
So, Here is my take on the paper bows:

 

 

 

Card with pencil shavings..

This is a real simple craft which is done using the shavings of pencils.

It is a good activity to do with little older kids who can handle the delicate pencil shavings.

I guess, almost all of us would have done it during our childhood days.
It is simple, easy to make, & with minimal craft supplies. You just need a cardstock, glue, some colourful pencils and a sharpener.

Word Art

I saw this sometime ago in one of the MAD sort of shows in one of the kid's channels...

The random fonts and sizes of letters gives it a very different kind of look.

I liked the work...and hence decided to give it a try.

So it started with cutting different letters from different newspapers. And then sticking them randomly on a sheet of cardstock.

We also created two cards for father's day..that is today. :-)

I am thinking about using this word art sheet for some other project..like may be a pen holder..any suggestions from the talented vrafters are always welcome...:-)

Ghadoli decoration

"No event in our home can be over without any crafty thing done"
These were the words of bride-to-be, that is my youngest sis. So we rolled up our sleeves and started the work.
The wedding took place last month..because of overload of work..I couldn't click many pics of the work we did. Here is the one activity we did earlier as well.
As a tradition of ghadoli in our community, the sis in law carries a small pot on her head, fills it with water from the nearest temple and bride uses this water to bath after haldi ceremony. The whole lot of ladies and kids march on the way to temple, dancing to the beats of punjabi dhol.
So sharing the pic of a simple steel matki decorated with maroon velvet cloth, laces, and embellishment.

Me and the little one did the task. He was either putting glue on pot or on his fingers...and was helping me with selecting the embellishments and laces.. :-)

A card for teacher

My 4 year old wanted to give a card to her teacher because the session is ending....no wait..because his friend has given a card to her..!!!

So yesterday evening..we rolled up our sleeves...and after half an hour of hard work aka selecting card stocks, colours, designs, sticking our fingers with glue and all..we came up with pretty decent and a simple creation..:-)

After that I told him to write sumthing inside....and voila...the way he has written, i fear that the teacher will change her decision of promoting him to ukg. ;-)

ETA: he not only got promoted...but also got the present for being best boy of the class...(i am still wondering how...?) :-)

Kids activity - Leaf painting

Hello friends,
Hope everybody is doing fine.
I am posting here after a long time.
End of June'13 proved to be real bad for me n my family. For few subsequent months i didn't felt like crafting anymore. but statying away fromm this feels like staying away from my roots.
So, few days back i just did a little activity to keep the lil one and his friend busy for sometime.
We went outdoors and collected fallen leaves of various sizes and shapes. Then we took out our water colors and had fun doing leaf painting.
If done properly it gives a beautiful impression of leaf texture.

It is indeed a good activity if you have to stay indoors with hyperactive kids and still maintain the peace without switching on the TV...:-)

Father's day card - 2

Here comes 2 more cards created for special fathers in our life ( dear Nanaji and Dadaji).. :-)

Lil champ wanted one card with airplane, one with train and one with car.
He also wanted to create a fourth one...for himself...!!!
When I told him that it is for Father's day, he replied, "main bi to father hoon...tortoise ka....!!!"
**tortoise is his favourite soft toy**
